とりあえずイギリス事情から見てみよう。

いずれの身分に属するかによって、国内での様々な取扱いで差異を生ずることがあるほか、パスポートにその区分が明示されるため、海外渡航の際も相手国により取扱いが異なることがある。（例：日本に入国する場合、GBRとGBNは短期訪問目的なら査証（ビザ）不要となるが、残りの四つは数日の観光訪日であってもビザが必要となる。）
